TIPS!!!
Here are some random tips to get past the humps and lose that extra pound.
- If your friends want to go drinking, offer to be the designated driver! You get to avoid Alcohol, which is SUPER high cal, to instead have water or diet soda.
- Fidget!! Make it random by bouncing your legs around, or give it a system by tapping your feet and hands in a certain way. It won’t burn the most calories, but it’s still burning
- If you’re worried weight gain on vacation, most hotels have a pool and small gym. Every hotel I’ve ever stayed in has had a treadmill, yoga mat, and some weights. Use them! Constant swimming is also a great way to burn calories. Jump in!
- Put a bandaid or rubber band on your wrist. Every time you want to eat, snap the rubber band or rip the band aid up a little. You’ll start to associate the pain with eating.
- Caffeine is a natural appetite suppressant, but if you can’t handle Caffeine, save up a few dollars for nan appetite suppressant shake from Wal-Mart. I’ve seen some that are around $5, just take one once a day, when your appetite is huge.
- Keep your hands busy and keep focused. Doing something that takes time and focus, like cleaning your room, doing a jigsaw puzzle, or even just getting really into a new TV show can distract from hunger and the need to eat.
- Tell people you got really inspired to try the 7 day vegan challenge! This makes it waaaay easier to deny processed meat, cheese, and butter (all of which are trigger foods for me).
- If you’re having a meal around family, create a system and follow it. For example, I eat all my vegetables (less if it’s a salad with cream dressing), 3-5 small bites of meat (less if it has sauce), and 1 bite of carb. I then combine and mash my food just a little to make it look like I got somewhere.
- Drink tons of water. If you can handle it, open the fridge whenever you’re in the kitchen when other people are around to make it sound like you’re getting food. No one will worry as much, and you have an excuse for not eating lots at meals (sorry! I had so many snack today!)
- Try to change your mindset to remember food isn’t the number one enemy: eating without control is. Plan out your meals to the last detail so you know what you’re doing.
- Try the 80/20 rule: most fitness pros will tell you weight loss is about balance. You can’t expect to completely cut out junk, because it’s not reasonable. Try to eat healthy 80% of the time, and unhealthy 20% of the time. At the same time, healthy food should take up 80% of a regular sized dinner plate, and junk should take up 20% or less of a regular sized dinner plate.
